There are 6 kingdoms of bacteria. Archaebacteria is unicellular, live in extreme habitats, and is one of the first organisms to inhabit the earth. Eubacteria is common. Most of this bacteria need oxygen to survive and some do not need it. This bacteria is used in making food. Yogurt and cheese have this bacteria in it. This can also cause diseases. There are 5 different shapes of bacteria. Cocci is round, bacilli is rod shaped, spirilla is spiral, planes is staph, and chains is strepto shaped. There is a procedure to classify different types of bacteria. First you stain the bacteria, some stain pink and some stain purple. If its purple the gram stain is positive if its pink its gram stain negative. This tells scientist what kind of wall it has. Strict aerobe can only in the presence of oxygen. Strict anerobe can only grow with no oxygen. Facultaltive anaerobe prefers oxygen enviroment but ca grow throughout a medium.
